The firms that create the Playstation game decks like Xbox and Playstation are locked into what looks to be a sour contention for the lead spot in the hearts of gamers around the globe. While both systems offer similar concepts, games and graphics, there are still those that have their faves. Favourites mean more sales for one company or another.

Then one must take under consideration the new advancements that are made and when the new decks hit the market. This past year was a bad and good year for Xbox.

The secondary market exploded and some of the machines were selling for 3 or four times the retail price before the final day of Christmas shopping. The sole downfall for the company appears to once have been a mistake made in their rush to hit the market with the system. The new Xbox 360 worked on the same grounds as a PC, with a difficult drive and processor. The maker rushed to release a patch but the damage was done. The same might be expounded for Playstation on the good and bad front.

While their Playstation 2 was a very classy and functional system with tons of games, they wanted to release something new and high tech. They related the Playstation 3 game system to the market but gave no certain date of release for the machine. Expectancy built in the months leading in to Christmas and still no word from Sony. Ultimately in the spring of 2006 Sony commented the the date of release of the Playstation 3 would be even further off as they were facing similar issues to that of Xbox.
